Automated Static Perimetry (Humphrey Field Analyzer)

The Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer is the global benchmark for clinical visual field assessment. Using fast, threshold algorithms (such as SITA Standard and SITA Fast 24-2 / 30-2 protocols), the machine projects dim and bright light stimuli at varied retinal points while you look at a central target. By recording the dimmest light stimulus perceived at each location, it produces a detailed sensitivity map highlighting microscopic visual depression.

A visual field test is a non-invasive diagnostic examination that measures the full range of what your eye can see while looking straight ahead, mapping both central clarity and peripheral (side) vision sensitivity.

You sit comfortably in front of a bowl-shaped perimeter with one eye patched. As small points of light flash in varying brightness across your field of view, you press a handheld buzzer whenever you see a flash while keeping your gaze fixed on the central target.

Using modern SITA threshold algorithms, the test typically takes approximately 4 to 8 minutes per eye, depending on the test strategy selected by Dr. Tripathi.

Glaucoma damages peripheral vision before central vision is affected. Perimetry provides the primary objective measurement of how well your optic nerve is functioning and confirms whether treatments are keeping your condition stable.

No. The test is simply an objective map of your current visual sensitivity. It is normal to not see every light flash, as the test intentionally includes very dim stimuli below normal perception thresholds to map your visual boundaries.

For newly diagnosed glaucoma or unstable eye pressures, tests may be performed every 6 months. For stable glaucoma patients, testing is generally repeated every 6 to 12 months for long-term progression tracking.
